Fernanda C. Melo, from Pawtucket, RI, born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal on December 5, 1937 passed away on December 19, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Fernanda was born to Conceicao Raposo Sousa (Mother) and Francisco Sousa (Father). She was the loving wife of the late Manuel Melo. She leaves behind five children, Maria Pratas, Margarida Melo, Fernanda Merigan, Maria Iovino and only son Jose Melo, along with their spouses; 12 loving grandchildren and 4 great -grandchildren. Fernanda has five siblings, Maria Rosario, Jose and Jaime Sousa (deceased) and also leaves behind two sisters, Margarida DeMedeiros and Rosa Costa of North Providence and brother Louis Sousa of Pawtucket and many nieces and nephews.
Fernanda migrated here in April 1972 with her husband and children. Her first job was working at Health-tex, where she befriended many people of the Portuguese community. She also retired from the Tulip paint company where she worked for 11 years. Once she retired her main priority was taking care of her family and help in raising her grandchildren. She was also part of the parish of St. Anthony’s of Pawtucket and was person with deep faith.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, December 22nd at 10:00am in St. Anthony Church, 32 Lawn Ave., Pawtucket. Burial is private for immediate family only in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
